External applications, such as Excel and Power BI, can be connected to your Playbook database.

Connecting Power BI to Playbook

  1. To connect Excel to Playbook...
    1. Open the Dashboard.

    2. Open the report you would like to use as the basis for your Excel file. If you're not sure which report to use, contact a Customer Success Engineer for assistance.

    3. Click Settings > Get an API/BI URL > Copy Power Query. The Power Query  has all the settings Excel needs to configure the report.

    4. Leave Playbook as-is and open Excel.
    5. In the Data menu, click Get Data > From Other Sources > Blank Query.

    6. Click Advanced Editor.

    1. Select and delete all text.

    2. Paste the Power Query that you copied in Playbook.

    3. Leave the Excel file as-is and go back to where you were in the Playbook Dashboard.
    4. Click Get Authentication Token > Copy Key. Note: only administrators can generate an authentication token.

    5. Warning - Make sure you copy the key! We do not store it, and you will not be able to see it again. And be sure to paste it in the right place before copying over it with a BI URL or Power Query.
    6. Copy/paste the authentication token overriding the text between the double quotes 
      <AUTHORIZATION TOKEN HERE>.

    7. Click Done then Close & Load.

    8. Voila! Your Excel file is now connected to Playbook via the Query1 worksheet. Need a hand? Contact a Customer Success Engineer today!
    9. Authorization tokens are valid for one year. When an authorization token expires, it can be renewed for another year. Click here for details.
    10. To update the Playbook data, right-click in the table on the Query1 sheet > Refresh.

  1. To connect Power BI to Playbook...
    1. Open the Dashboard.
