Save Options

  1. Playbook is cloud-based and uses a client-server architecture.
    Save - Client-server architecture
  2. There are three options you can use when working in Playbook: Save, Save & Sync, and Discard & Sync.
    Save Options
  3. When you load a project, data is downloaded from the server (cloud) to your computer (client). In this example, Mary and Bob have downloaded the same project (Project X).
Save - Client-server - Mary and Bob download Project X
  4. When you click Save, any changes you have made are uploaded from the client to the server. In this example, Mary and Bob have changed different things and each has saved their changes on the server. However, Mary's computer doesn't see Bob's changes and Bob's computer doesn't see Mary's changes.
Save - Client-server - Mary and Bob Save
  5. When you sync, the latest data on the server is downloaded to your computer. In this example, Mary and Bob will now see the changes the other made when the sync is complete.
Save - Client-server - Mary and Bob download Project X
  6. Therefore, a Save & Sync first saves your changes to the server, then downloads the latest data on the server to your computer which keeps you in sync with other people's changes. Best practice - use  Save & Sync as a default .
    Save - Client-server - save and sync
  7. Discard & Sync, on the other hand, discards all the changes you have made since your last save, then downloads the latest data on the server to your computer.
  8. When you close a browser with unsaved changes, the following message is issued by the browser. If you click Leave, you will lose your unsaved changes. To save your unsaved changes, click Cancel, then Save & Sync.
    Save - Close browser message
  9. There are two other save options, AutoSave & Prompt-to Save which can be enabled in the Preferences menu.
    Save - Preferences menu
Save - Preferences - Save Options
  10. AutoSave and Prompt-to Save can be configured three ways...
    1. Save automatically (after time expires) - If you make a change and then leave Playbook idle for ten seconds after three minutes have passed, Playbook automatically saves without prompting the user.
Save Options - save automatically only
    2. Prompt me to save - If you make a change and then leave Playbook idle for ten seconds after three minutes have passed, Playbook prompts you to save.
Save Options - prompt me to save only
Save Options - prompt me to save - prompt window
    3. Save automatically & Prompt me to save - If you make a change and then leave Playbook idle for ten seconds after three minutes have passed, Playbook prompts you to save. If you don't select an option within ten seconds, Playbook automatically saves.
Save Options - save automatically & prompt me
