"Critical Summary is Not Auto-Duration" Warning

  1. A warning can be configured to alert you anytime there is a summary task on the critical path whose duration is not set to Auto, therefore, is longer than its subtasks.

  2. For example, the summary task Auxiliar PCBA Fab has a duration longer than its subtasks.
    Apr 2023 - Critical Summary not auto-duration - 1
  3. A message appears in the Warnings List.
    Apr 2023 - Critical Summary not auto-duration - 2
  4. Looking at the summary's Task Properties, Auto is not checked so the duration has been manually entered (in this example 26 days) and is not determined by its subtasks.
    Apr 2023 - Critical Summary not auto-duration - 3
  5. Checking Auto forces the summary's duration to be determined by its subtasks (in this example 20 days).
    Apr 2023 - Critical Summary not auto-duration - 4
  6. In this example, the summary task is no longer on the critical path.
    Apr 2023 - Critical Summary not auto-duration - 5
  7. This warning helps to ensure that the summary task's duration isn't longer than it should be, which might incorrectly indicate a delay.
